mother's day It’s a theatrical weekend coming up.  Only 1 of the 6 happenings we have this weekend is an actual event.  There’s not a lot going on because this is Mother’s Day Weekend.  I hope you have good memories of growing up with your Mother.

Because some of us are far from our children or have moms who’ve passed away, this can be a sad time.  Do you know someone like this?  If you do, why not put a smile on their face?  How much would it cost to bring a mother who will be alone some flowers?  Since it’s tough when you’ve lost your mom, why not spend a little time together?

Holidays can be tough because not everyone can celebrate.  Like the song says – try a little tenderness.  Let’s go on to our theatrical weekend now.

Summer Kickoff and Car Show

The Summer Kickoff fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Club in Lodi was a great success last year.  This year they’ve added a classic car show which means there’ll be thousands coming. Plus they’ve got more of everything.  You’ll have a wonderful afternoon no matter how old or young you are.  All sorts of games, inflatables, food trucks, vendors, music and more will be there.  Hours are 12-4 and location is 460 Passaic Ave in Lodi.

Guilty Pleasures at Black Box Theater

Guilty Pleasures: An Unapologetic Comedy brings you a truly wonderful night at the theater.  Written by Ken Levine, the award winning comedy writer, it’s a deliciously flunny slapstick comedy that will keep you laughing throughout.  Performances start this weekend at the Black Box Performing Arts Center in Englewood (8 E Palisade Ave).  Times are 8 pm Thursday-Sunday plus Sunday matinees at 3 pm this week and the next 2.

Scenes from the Opera

Come out Saturday night at 8 pm to the Syriac Community Hall in Paramus (55 W Midland Ave) where you’ll hear some of operas most beautiful arias.  Opera is so beloved that you’d better get your tickets online to this special Bergen Philharmonic production.  That’s because there won’t be much available at the door since they expect a near sell out.

You will hear 8 different and gifted voices which together with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra will simply enthrall you with the beauty of operatic music.  Tickets are only $25 for adults, $20 for seniors and $10 for students and children.

Steel Magnolias at HACPAC

Steel Magnolias is a poignant play about 6 women who are friends who help each other as they travel through life.  Because each has a unique personality, this is also a study in the bonds that a diverse group of friends share.  While faced with unspeakable challenges, their bond of friendship and hope for the future create a wonderful, inspriing play.  Performed at the Hackensack Performing Arts Center (HACPAC) this weekend, you won’t want to miss it.  HACPAC is located at 102 State Street and there’s a garage directly across from it.  Times are Friday 8 pm, Saturday 2 & 8 pm, Sunday 3 pm.

5k and 1 Mile Races on Saturday

The Mile by Impact Zone –

The Mile by Impact Zone is a St Jude Children’s Hospital Benefit.  Impact Zone is a fitness club at 335 Chestnut St in Norwood.  Although they’re sponsoring this 1 mile fundraiser run for St Jude, it’s also an open house for them.  In addition to introducing themselves to you, they have a lot of vendors coming too.  All races start at 10 am and end 30 minutes later.  You signup online.

RPEF Run For Our Schools in Ramsey

The Ramsey Public Educational Foundation (RPEF) run has become a huge annual town run in Ramsey.  As a result, it’s a major community wide that grows bigger every year.  It raises thousands of dollars for Ramsey schools and is a high energy spirited event with runners taking off to the sound of motivating music.  In addition to the 1 mile Family Run, there’s a USATF sanctioned 5k run in several age categories.  For all the information and to sign up, click on this link.  Everything starts at the Ramsey Town Pool (75 E Oak St).

Don’t forget that It Shoulda Been You is also still running at the Bergen County Players Little Firehouse Theater in Oradell.  Add this in and we have 3 plays out of 6 happenings.  No doubt at all that it’s a theatrical weekend coming up!
