This weekend starts off on Thursday night because there’s a special garden club program and it’s Dr Seuss’s birthday. Dri Seuss,is known and loved around the world. His children’s books are read to very young children as I did with my son. Every year there are all sorts of Dr Seuss celebrations on his birthday as a result. While there are a lot of Tenafly Nature Center events, I did list them separately. Here’s our lineup:
It’s Dr Seuss’s Birthday – Thursday
Thursday is Dr Seuss’s birthday and PreSchool Readers has a treat for the younger set. They are hosting a free Dr Seuss event Thursday night at 7 pm. This is a live storytime with Miss Katie celebrating Dr Seuss and his birthday. It’s geared to pre-school and very young children. You have to register to access this virtual Zoom event on their website.
If you have such young children or know someone who does, make sure to tell them about this. I remember how much fun it was to read Dr Seuss books to my son.
Get Ready For Spring Flowers – Thursday
Dr Seuss isn’t the only happening Thursday night. The Garden Club of Harrington Park has a great speaker at it’s monthly meeting and this is open to the public. Christopher Raimondi returns to present a program showcasing spring annual flowers. If you need help with what to plant and how to do it, be sure to come Thursday night. Mr. Raimondi is a highly regarded and famous horticulturist. It begins 7:30 pm at the Harrington Park Library (10 Herring St) and is open to the public for free.
Crafty Critters – Saturday
Its time for Crafty Critters at the Tenafly Nature Center again. This is one of their most popular monthly events where you get to meet a “crafty critter” and get to know all about the animal. Additionally Crafty Critters is a great way to introduce children to nature but it’s also fun for adults too. It’s only $8 for members and $12 for non Nature Center members. Registration is online for this 1 hour Saturday 2 pm fun event (which can run a bit longer depending on how many questions peope have)..
Broadway to Hollywood – Saturday
The John Barrymore Film Center in Fort Lee is having it’s first live concert this Saturday. Broadway to Hollywood is going to be an amazing concert. Performed by 9 different world class artists, you’ll hear Broadway hit songs that became iconic American standards (some even won Oscars) when they became part of box office smash movies like Funny Girl and Carousel.
The concert is a Saturday night at 8 pm. This is a one time benefit performance; tickets are purchased online.
5 Spaces Left for Maple Sugaring – Sunday
I’ve written about this before and advised you to not wait to get tickets. Because this is such a popular annual event, it normally requires getting tickets 1-2 weeks in advance. 5 spaces are left for this Sunday’s session at 11:30 am. I don’t know how long they’ll last so go to the Tenafly Nature Center’s website ASAP and get your tickets reserved now.
Antiques and Collectibles – Sunday
The Wayne PAL (Wayne Police Athletic League) regularly holds an antiques and collectibles show monthly. These shows attract a large crowd and 150 dealers. These vendors have all sorts of antiques and collectibles which is why there’s such a large turnout. So come this Sunday 9-2:30 to the Wayne PAL Building at 1 PAL Way in Wayne. Are you wondering why I include this Passaic County event? Becaue it’s so close to Bergen County and you’re likely to see friends from Bergen County there!
Full Moon Hike – Sunday
Sunday night is this month’s full moon hike at the Tenafly Nature Center. You’ll need sturdy shoes and appropriate clothing for this entirely outdoors event. Remember to bring a flashlight too. The hike begins at 5 pm but I’d get therer about 10 minutes early. A full moon hike in the woods allows you to relax and connect with nature in a way you can’t during the daytime. Cost is $8 for members and $12 for non members. Registration is online.
Nora Neus in Tenafly
Here is something very special. Nora Neus is an Emmy nominated CNN news journalist who will be at the Tenafly Presbyterian Church on Sunday afternoon at 4 pm. She is going to talk about her book “Muhammad Najem, War Reporter” which she co-wrote with Muhammed Najem. NPR rated this 2022 book as one of the most important books of 2022. This free event will talk about how a boy reporter took on Syria. The Tenafly Presbyterian Church is located at 55 Magnolia St.
This is quite a lineup and a bit unique because of Dr Seuss’s birthday. Because there’s so many truly different events, you’ll find something fun to do. Don’t forget about the Bergen County Players production of The Play That Goes Wrong too.
