major eventsThere are 6 major event to go to this weekend for fun plus 4 runs.  If you’re into 5k runs or walks, there’s plenty to choose from.  The 6 major events are quite varied so there’s something for everyone.

Let’s take a look now at the major events and runs coming up this weekend:

Superhero 5 k Run Saturday Morning  Su[erHero 5k

The Superhero 5k Run is a benefit event for the Old Tappan First Responders.  Because most runs require registration before this one is a bit unique.  You can register the morning of as long as you do it by 9 am.  This is geared for all abilities since there’s a walk and a kiddie sprint too.  Go to the website to register and for more information.

classic carVeterans Car Show Saturday

The Veterans Car Show is this Saturday from 9 to 3 at St Francis Church in Lodi (125 Union St).  This is a full blown car show with classic cars, motorcycles and other vehicles.

You’ll also find supporting vendors like The Auto Detail Guy.  In addition there’s a very special booth – Operation K9 Beethoven.  This is an organization that donates emotional support dogs to vets for free.  Please stop by and donate even as little as $1.  They are hoping to have enough support to help 22 vets by the end of this year.

SACKtoberfest on Saturday SACKtoberfest 2022

SACKtoberfest is Hackensack’s version of Octoberfest.  Begun last year, it was so popular that this is now an annual event.  SACKtoberfest runs from 1 to 8 with live music going the entire time.  There’s food trucks, artisan vendors, local micro breweries in a biergarten and various local restaurants.  This is a fun event that’s held at the Atlantic Street Park behind the Hackensack Performing Arts Center.

art in the parkArt In The Park is a Huge Event

Bergen County  has a constant series of fun events throughout the year.  Because nearly everyone appreciates art, Art in the Park is one of their biggest.  This is truly a huge event with over 100 artists displaying their work.  You can literally walk down aisles of beautiful art at Van Saun Park.  This exhibit draws thousands of visitors during the day.  It starts at 11 and closes at 3:30 so you can easily fit it into your schedule.

Live music is on from 12:30 till closing plus there’s demonstrations of all sorts of artistic forms from acrylics to watercolors.  The art you see exhibited is also for sale.  As a result, you can bring something beautiful home for yourself too!

Demarest Farms Halloween Light Show Demarest Farms Halloween Light Show

Demarest Farms is a very special place.  Located at 244 Weirimus Road in Hillsdale, this family run farm offers Bergen County residents the experience of farming you can’t find anywhere else.  You can, depending on the season, pick your own fruit, visit a holiday light display or just come to their country store for home baked donuts and pies.

Every fall they have an amazing Halloween Light Show that gets bigger every year.  Because it’s such a popular event, you must make reservations through their website.  While there is a cost, it’s well worth it in my view.

Pick pumpkins, learn how to make a scarecrow, watch demonstrations of open hearth cooking and watch a black smith.  The entire complex is open for viewing including the original 1752 Von Steuben House.  Harvest Homecoming is really aimed at families with children but anyone can enjoy it.  Hot cider and donuts are available for sale but the pumpkin you pick is free.  Tickets are only $12.50 for adults, 6-21 students $7.50 and under 6 free.  New Bridge Landing is located at 1201 Main St in River Edge.

Flat Rock Brook’s Annual Great Fall Festival Flat Rock Brook

Flat Rock Brook is a 150 acre nature preserve in Englewood at 443 Van Nostrand Ave.  This is a very active nature center; every year they put on their Great Fall Festival.

AND I have to tell you this is a great deal.  Everything is included – even the barbecue lunch! – for the price of your ticket.  Adults are $10, 6-17 is $5 and under 6 is free.  So you get included all sorts of games, activities, live animal demonstrations, live music and that barbecue lunch included.  This is a lot of fun attracting people from all around.  It runs from 1 to 4 on Sunday.

Clearly this weekend has a lot going on with these 6 major events and 4 runs.  While times overlap, you can still go to more than 1 each day.  Don’t forget about the Nightmare on River Road for spooky fun too.  Have a great weekend!
