Our Lady of Mt CarmelIt’s another fun weekend in Bergen County.  If you’re home this weekend you’ll have plenty of options.  Don’t miss my article about all the free outdoor summer concerts going on too.  They’re really terrific with great music.  At the same time, every weekend has other events going on and this weekend does not disappoint.

We have a good mix of events coming up this week.  When it comes to things to do Bergen County always has a lot going on.  The spectacular Our Lady of Mt Carmel Lyndhurst Church Feast happens this week.  Bergen County’s annual Movies After Dark kicks off.  Saturday also has 2 very different car shows.  One from the  Dumont Boy Scouts and the other from the Fort Lee Business District Alliance.  The Englewood Public Library is bringing back Story Time too and there’s a major butterfly festival.

Add to this our wonderful Bergen County Parks where you’ll find everything from camping and fishing to horseback riding and kayaking.  So it’s another fun weekend in Bergen County.

Butterfly Day  Butterfly Day

Sunday, July 16, from 10 to 3 is Butterfly Day.  It’s held at Richard W. DeKorte Park in Lyndhurst with the help if the Bergen County Audubon Society and the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority.  While this is for all ages, there are special activities for children.  There’s a butterfly costume contest, scavenger hunt, monarch game and a special butterfly walk.  Judging for the costumes is at 11:45 so get there on time.  The half hour walks begin at 10:30 and go all day.  In addition, there’s a talk about how to save Monarch Butterflies at 12:30 and tons of information to teach you how to attract butterflies to your garden.  This is a great event no matter how old or young you are.

Car Shows For You on Saturday

Dumont Boy Scout Car Show

All sorts of classic cars will be on display this Saturday in Dumont from 10 to 3.  The Dumont Boy Scouts are car showsponsoring this free event where you’ll see over 200 classic and custom cars, trucks and motorcycles.  This is held on West Shore Ave in town.

Fort Lee Business District Alliance Concours on the Palisades

Here is the ying to the Dumont Boy Scout Car Show yang.  Concours on the Palisades is a display of high end and exotic cars.  This will be at Main Street in Fort Lee.  Over 100 of carefully chosen exotic cars will be there and they have an open market set up for food and drinks.  This is a very unique opportunity to see truly amazing vehicles.

Englewood Public Library –  story time

Outdoor story time is back at the Englewood Public Library for young children  This is a series that happens every Friday at 10 am.  It’s so important to introduce children to reading in addition to technology.  A love of reading for a lifetime enhances everything you do. Just ask the Fortune 500 executives all of whom read constantly in their spare time. Click on this link for all the information.

Movies After Dark

I have to tell you, Bergen County has a simply outstanding County government.  In addition to outdoor summerMovie in the Dark concerts they have a series of outdoor movies at night starting this Friday night in Van Saun Park.  Movies After Dark has been a hit for years.  This is because it’s so well run and family oriented.  So come out to Van Saun Park this Friday night, July 14th, to see the original classic film, Lady and The Tramp.  All movies start at sunset which is usually around 8:30 pm but I’d get there earlier so you can set up a seat.  Bring chairs and/or a blanket.

Our Lady of Mt CarmelOur Lady of Mt Carmel Lyndhurst Church Feast

This is very possibly the largest Church Feast in Bergen County.  It runs from Wednesday through Saturday and gets bigger every year.  Location is the Town Hall Park at 299 Delafield Ave and hours are 6-10 every day except Saturday when it starts at 5.  Because this is so popular, it’s well supported with excellent vendors.  The Italian food there is amazing – don’t forget to get a cannoli and zeppole!  Church feasts are always popular because they’re so much fun and this one is truly spectacular.

Tenafly Nature Center

Childrens Tideland Program –

I normally try to keep this to free or low cost events, but this is a 3 hour learning program at the Hudson River for children.  Cost is $40 but well worth it.  Details are through this link. tenafly nature center

Full Moon Hike –

It’s that time of the month again.  The full moon is coming and that means a full moon hike Friday night, July 15th.  This is for adults and starts at 8 pm ending at 10 pm.  You’ll find all the details through this link.  The cost is only $5 per adult.

Hi Barbara. I try to publish a blog article every week on what’s coming up in Bergen County. Because you’re in Clifton, I guess you’ll have to Google that. However, there are sites you can go to. I use a bunch of them. You must have a Passaic County magazine that’s also online. There’s https://www.jerseyfamilyfun.com/ and I Google for car shows near me. I also check out a lot of town Chamber of Commerce and borough websites. Each article takes me around 3.5 hours to write. Anyway, I would love to get together with you some time in the future. Barbara
