Memorial Day Weekend in Bergen County is filled with events and local town Memorial Day Parades too. Memorial Day Parades were always a big deal growing up and they still are.
I remember marching along Broad Avenue in Leonia as a Girl Scout Brownie in our Memorial Day Parade. Small town parades are a lot of fun for everyone. Not all towns do this anymore and I really think it’s a shame. There is something very endearing about having local people, first responders and your dignitaries in a Memorial Day parade down Main Street. Here is what I have for you in parades and events happening Memorial Day Weekend in Bergen County:

LE.A.D. Is Hosting A Carnival
Do you know what L.E.A.D is? It’s Law Enforcement Against Drugs and Violence. This is a wonderful program by law enforcement officers to help train children to avoid drugs, respect each other and not bully and to stay away from violent behavior. This is a non profit organization where officers volunteer their time because they are committed to helping our youth to stay out of harm’s way.
L.E.A.D is hosting a terrific weekend carnival at the Garden State Plaza this weekend. If you get your tickets now, you get them at a discount. So go to the website and check it out. There’s also carnival dates in June so be sure to go their website.

They promise an amazing assortment of food trucks too. Admission is $5 and for those of us under 12, you’re free!
The Ridgewood Run
The Ridgewood Run is celebrating it’s 45th year and is a NJ Masters Club Run. This is one of the most prestigious runs in Northern New Jersey and a source of pride for Bergen County runners. Because it’s such an important event, it attracts serious runners from all over as a result.
There is a wide variety of running events at all levels. There are 11 different runs and registration ends tomorrow on May 25th. So if you haven’t signed up by now, do so immediately on their website.

Memorial Day Weekend in Bergen County
As you can see, we have a lot going on this weekend. Because it’s a special holiday that begins the summer season, we sometimes forget what this is truly about. Please take a moment and remember that Memorial Day Weekend is a time to honor the men and women in the armed forces who have died fighting for our country. If you know of a family who lost someone, check in on them because this is not an easy weekend for a military family.
