mother's day weekendIt’s Mother’s Day Weekend so you’d think not much doing.  There’s more than you’d expect:  a campfire meeting, nature walk, run, 2 plays and a symphony.  It’s also a traditional start to the season.

Mother’s Day Weekend here is the start of the gardening season.  People go out to nurseries, buy annual flowering plants and then come home to plant them in the dirt.  I think this year it’s going to be a little muddy because rain is forecast for Friday and Saturday.  Let’s hope things change!

Looking at what’s coming up, we have a few options –

Rubin Run

This is an annual tradition at the Kaplan JCC on the Palisades.  The Rubin Run is truly something that would speak to any Mother’s heart.  This is because it’s a major fundraiser for people with special needs.  Just click on this link for all the details and to register.

Tenafly Nature Center Has 2 Events – tenafly nature center

Community Campfire

It’s that time again for the Tenafly Nature Center Community Campfire.  This is an extremely popular monthly event where people get together and perform.  No kidding.  You can sing, read poetry, play an instrument etc.  It’s a communal sharing experience around a campfire.  Enjoy the fun while you’re roasting marshmallows.  Get yourself registered because you won’t want to miss this exceptionally fun experience.

Mother’s Day Weekend Walk

The Tenafly Nature Center has a special guided walk on Mother’s Day.  For those of us who don’t run (like myself), a guided walk in the woods with your family is a great idea.  Imagine how peaceful and fun this will be.  Moms and children under 2 areplayers guild of leonia free too!  So check it out further online and get registered right away.

Follies at the Players Guild of Leonia

Friday night starts a several week run of Follies at the Players Guild of Leonia.  This is a musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim so you know it’s going to be great.  Have you ever been to this theater?  I have several times.  It’s very intimate because it’s not very big.  What they’ve done to keep everyone safe is having a commercial grade air filtration system installed.  Go to the website for details and to order your tickets.

World Premier at the Black Box PAC  black box pac

Beth Henley is a Pulitzer Prize winning playwright.  She won the Pulitzer Prize for her play Crimes of the Heart.  She’s having her world premier production of Exposed at the Black Box Performing Arts Center in Englewood beginning Saturday night.  This is a major theatrical event because Ms. Henley is such an accomplished playwright.  Billed as a poignant comedy, this is a not to be missed play.  Tickets are ordered online in advance.

Ridgewood Symphony Orchestra

The Ridgewood Symphony Orchestra has been performing for over 80 years.  This is a wonderful musical organization because they not only give spectacular concerts, they also encourage and promote young artists.  Since it’s founding the RSO has been a very special symphony orchestra.  World class musicians within it’s own ranks, the orchestra also has renown guest performers at many of it’s musical events.  They are performing Friday night, 8 pm, at the West Side Presbyterian Church (6 S Monroe St, Ridgewood).  This venue was chosen because of it’s exceptional acoustic properties.  Ridgewood has the biggest local business district filled with wonderful restaurants.  Why not take advantage of this and then enjoy a fabulous concert?  Get your tickets online.

So there you have it for Mother’s Day Weekend.  Have you seen the movie Patton?  If so you’ll understand this.  We need a weather prayer to keep the rain away Mother’s Day Weekend!
