This week we have the National Night Out on Tuesday night throughout Bergen County. This is a community building event held annually on the first Tuesday in August. It’s goal is to build stronger relationships among neighbors and between law enforcement and the public. As a result, everyone in town is invited to this free event. The idea is to have people come together to know each other and the police. You’ll find fun for all ages and often demonstrations by the police, fire department and ambulance corp.
Because this is a major national event, there are many Bergen County towns participating. Click on this link and scroll down the page to see all the towns having a National Night Out.
Ridgewood Sidewalk Sale
In addition to the National Night Out, there is the biggest sidewalk sale of them all. It’s happening in Ridgewood this Thursday through Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm. Ridgewood has the largest town business district in Bergen County. As big as Englewood’s sidewalk sale was last week, this is close to double in size.
People living in the northwest part of Bergen County often go to Ridgewood on summer nights. There’s always so much happening there. Just walking through the expansive business district window shopping is fun but that’s not all. Have dinner at one of it’s renown restauants. There are so many to choose from and the cuisine is as diverse as it gets. During the day it’s many shops offer you a variety of goods you simply won’t find elsewhere. I bet if you went every day you still couldn’t get to see it all.
Art at Abma’s
Abma Farms has a special treat for youngsters – Art at Abma’s. Every Thursday at 4 pm through August there is a 1 hour art class for young children. Hosting these classes is Renee of Made to Measure. Thursday begins the month with tie dyed clothing. Each week of arts and crafts is sometihng different. As a result, it keeps children entertained while building in a lesson about nature. Tickets are purchased in advance online.
Dining Out Rutherford
Rutherford is a favorite desitination for shopping and dining. This quaint town has one of Bergen County’s most extensive local business districts. In addition to it’s many shops you’ll find a large number of fine, independent restaurants including some of Bergen’s top rated. As a result, Dining Out in Rutherford is extremely popular.
It’s a good idea to make reservations so you’re sure to get a table. Park Avenue becomes a walking mall 5 – 11pm from the Library to Ames Ave. It’s an outdoor dining event held every Wednesday night in August. Based on my visits to Rutherford eateries, you don’t want to miss Dining Out in Rutherford.
Bergen Equestrian Center Meditation With Horses
Bergen Equestrian Center is one of 2 fabulous equestrian facilities run by the Bergen County Parks Department. In addition to having space for 60 horses, running classes from begininers to riders who compete, they have a very special program on Wednesday nights. Meditation With Horses is a 1 hour therapeutic session starting at 6 pm. Using the special healing spirits of horses, people release the effects of stress and trauma. Meditating in the presence of horses is a beautiful, healing experience.
So there you have it. National Night Out and more are what you’ll find this week. Don’t forget all the concerts and performances I’ve written about before either. There’s always a lot going on in Bergen County.
